System - above as stated Compaq Presario 5008US.

Have been doing the chat thing and so many people are using various app gadgets to record their audio from their sound card on streaming live talk chat sites.

I tried this and woe and behold as usual, can't do what everyone else does it gives me the error no matter what I do that my sound card is in use.

I have read if I do not have a full duplex card I HAVE ONBOARD BUILT INTO MOTHERBOARD SOUND CARD, NOT AN ACTUAL PCI CARD, that u can't talk both at same time etc. and believe that would explain it as I can't do 2 things at once as my onboard sound is only half duplex and not full duplex.

Pulling my hair out with this, as Compaq's aren't very cooperative at times.

Any help.

********Forgot to mention I do have a PCI Win TV PVR card in one of the PCI slots and it does use sound!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

When I record videos directly off of the VCR to computer then to disk, I have to plug the cables directly into the WinTV card and I have a black cord going from my Win TV card straight to the plug in for my sound card.

Any help appreciated.

PS - accidentally solved the WMP issue that my cds would not play sound, just changed the recording control to mixer and by accident, when I was troubleshooting this my cd sound came back yeah, hope this helps someone as well.

Thanks!!!!!!!!!

If your sound adapter is not full duplex, than you should purchase a sound card. Full duplex sound cards are very inexpensive and reasonably easy to install. You will need an empty card slot in your system though.

Sorry so long winded, to make a long story short, trying to record voice chat i.e. AIM, Yahoo, etc. straight to pc.

Problem sound is integrated into my board, not a pci card, when I try I get an error with any sound recording app I use that my sound card is in use.

Thought this due to the fact my integrated onboard sound was probably half duplex instead of full.

How would u tell if your sound adapter is full duplex.

Thanks.

Full duplex info:

You might want to remove the cable from the TV card to the sound card for a test.
