No sound at all. Using sound card that was in original Gateway, 3 years old. No DVD sound, no mp3 file played w/ Nero sound, no Windows start up chime sound. I have checked everything: no device conflicts, on board audio is diabled, most recent driver (Creative SB) is in use, speakers check out ok, ran through the whole trouble shooting scheme and did all suggested fixes. Nothing. Motherboard is Aopen AX4SG-UN and only 2 weeks old. Sound was working fine until today. Do sound cards just go bad? Would there be some kind of notice? Thanks for any suggestions.

Try running dxdiag to see if that can detect ny problems with the sound.
