Comment:

I recently installed a new WD 160 gig hard drive with 8mb cache. Card is attached to a Promise Ultra ATA 100 controller card in pci slot. I did a clean XP install and updated all drivers, system bios, etc.. Now I get sound crackles and pops and repeats it seems whenever HDD spins up or other program is opened up.

System:
Dell Dimension 8200
P4 1.7
640 mb rdram
WD 160 HDD
Sound Blaster Live Value

Any help would be much appreciated
Thanks

Probably the promise controller and the sound card are sharing the same IRQ. Try different combinations of PCI sockets and cards. Try assigning the sound card an unused IRQ

I fixed the problem. I downloaded and installed the Intel Application Accelerator and removed my Promise ATA controller card. My full hard drive size is recognized and the sound is perfect. Just thought I would pass this on.

I had tried the above suggestions to no avail.
