Sony viao keyboard issue

Very wierd issue sometimes I cannot use the keyboard to boot to a cd or get into the bios
But im able to using puppy linux without any issues all the hardware works perfectly
After linux boots in i can use the keyboard all the time what could it be -- bios update ?

Is your keyboard a USB model? If so, did the computer come with that keyboard? There may be a setting in the BIOS to Enable legusy USB devices. That will allow the keyboard to function prior to entering Windows.
The catch 22 is getting the BIOS to open in order to change the setting. You may need to temporarily connect a PS/2 Keyboard in order to open the BIOS screens.

I was able to get into the bios 1 out 30 tries -- no usb legacy option

Then try a different keyboard. Also, you may be using the wrong procedure. Start continously tapping the correct key as soon as you start the computer.
