Sony vgnsz650n bios crushed, help!!

Sony / Vgnsz650
March 20, 2009 at 11:06:38
Specs: Windows Vista
I updated the BIOS on the VAIO support site. After the update, it worked for a few hours, and then the whole computer crushed. Now when I press the power button, the screen is totally black, on VIAO wellcome comes up and the harddrive just sits. Can anyone tell if this is the BIOS problem or how to restore the default BIOS.

Thanks,

If you successfully flashed the BIOS and it ran OK then I doubt that rolling back to the original version will fix your problem.

I would guess the two events are unrelated.

You are making conflicting statements. Either the screen is totally black or you see something. If you are seeing a Viao logo then the computer seems to be working.

Try booting into safe mode by tapping the F8 key at startup. Once in safe mode look in Device Manager to see if any hardware is not working properly.

People don't normally flash the BIOS for the heck of it, I suspect you were trying to fix something. What was the problem that prompted the flash?

First, there is no output on the screen whatsover, not even the VAIO logo. Cannot boot to safe mode.

Second, I was having video adoptor driver problem which I had it stablized by driver update. Sony esuport gave the impression that updating the BIOS would also help, and that was what I did.

From #1, "VIAO wellcome comes up and the harddrive just sits".

So, did conditions deteriorate or did you error in the above statement.

A BIOS update would not normally have anything to do with a Windows driver.

Is this a laptop? If so, try an external monitor.

THIS IS A LAPTOP.

SOMEONE SUGGESTED TO UNPLUG CMOS BATTERY AND LET SYSTEM RESET. DOES THIS MAKE SENSE.
