Comment: Sony Vaio Tx1 - operating system not found ==========================================
Hi all, I have been trying to fix my Sony vaio VGN-TX1HP for 2 weeks now to no avail. The problem started when the laptop was dropped, after this it would work intermittently. Eventually it completed stopped working. I spoke to Sony support, who charge you just to speak to them, they advised that I need to send the laptop in to them and that it will cost £600 - £700. I was like con-artists. I decided to repair it myself. I purchased a new 1.8” hard drive for £110. I was all ready to install XP but the internal dvd-rw does work at all. So I purchased a 1.8 to 3.5 converter, removed hard drive attached to my desktop, installed dos copied i386 folder to new hard drive, tested hard drive on desktop and dos working fine. Re-attached new hard drive to vaio laptop, but now get error message “no operating system found”. Checked BIOS, hard drive and DVDRW not detected at all, loaded BIOS defaults to no avail. I would never recommend anybody to buy Sony VAIO… Please help………………….. Thanks Adam

Reply: (edit)The fact of the matter is You dropped it (warranty void due to user absue) you broke it and now you have to pay to have it fixed. Since You chosen to do it yourself you may have made it worse because laptops are generally considered non-repairable in a home environment. I deal with Sony all the time on behalf of clients PCs. IMO Sony Tech Support technicians are very competent in that they often go beyond the script to resolve problems. i_XpUser

Reply: (edit)I understand you're angry with Sony but remember it's not their fault particularly when you dropped it. If you have read the term of Warranty, you will see the grounds for exclusion. Wishing you the best of luck. Good day. i_XpUser

Reply: (edit)I understand that its my fault and I am not able to pay all that money to Sony to repair it. Sony are that bacckward they dont even sell you any parts for the VAIO, but they say send laptop to them and they will send you a big bill. I have had compaq laptop for longtime and they sell you parts no problem Nice day Dude

Reply: (edit)Hi seems to be a common Sony UK issue because i recently threw the remains of a vaio in the bin for exactly the same reason, they pulled the 'its not covered under the Sony UK warranty' one liner on me , that'l be £700 ,, and of course the Vaio i was attempting to extract the data out of wasnt covered by this as it was purchased abroad in HK, however,, the data recovered its now on a Dell ,this doesnt fix your problem, so i would suggest doing what i did get a knoppix disk or Hirens boot disk and testing to see if the laptop responds in any way past the error message if it doesnt then its garbage , bite the bullet and trip to pc world or aldi for a new laptop. Toshiba £499 pc world M50-235 Laptop Sony just wont sell the parts , the hdd in the viao i was a 1.8" Toshiba suprisingly difficult to get the ide adpater here but eventually ebay.. .back to HK lol cant win. just isnt worth arguing with UK Sony at some point the word gets round they lose, they cant pull this stunt in USA different arm of the corporation im told or better Lawyers. or call london only,, http://www.computerdoctor.co.uk/sony_vaio_laptop_repairs.htm

Reply: (edit)Update:-- I have replaced the hard drive because it was faulty but new hard drive is not detected, inserted new hard drive into my friends laptop, which is also a VGN-TX1HP to no avail. Inserted my friends hard drive into my laptop and hard drive detected. This leads me to the conclusion that there is a hidden drive on my friends laptop which stores the drivers and firmware for DVDRW. Any ideas please?????
