Comment: I have a Sony VAIO PCG-Z505LS laptop computer and it wont start. The computer was not used for about a year, and when turned back on, the LED status lights came on for a second and the computer shut off. It hasnt been able to turn on since and the most response that I can get out of the computer is a blinking battery light. That only happened after I bought a new 128 PC100 RAM chip. When I push the power switch, nothing happens. Nothing at all. No fan, no hard drive spinning, and no speaker noise. I would really like to use my laptop again and do not want to send it to Sony for a $300 minimum charge. Thank you and post questions if I have left anything out.

Reply: (edit)I have seen functional laptops that won't boot when the battery is totally dead. If it worked before, it should still work. I would find someone that deals in used stuff that would let you try another battery in the machine before you bought it.

Reply: (edit)I have tried several batteries and the power supply is not the problem. I have multi-tested just about every location I can find on the mother board where power should be running and its flowing and with good voltage. I took out the CMOS battery and I get a little more response than before. Now when I try to power the laptop on, all the LEDs come on on the bottom and then the power LED stays on for a second, then turns off. I have read that the CMOS battery has been the culprit of more than one power problem in the VAIO 505 series laptops. I am in the process of taking everything out to get at the underside of the motherboard, where the CMOS battery lives so I can get a new one.
