I was curious what memory type the GRV550 uses. Right now it's running on two 256 sticks, and I extracted the following information from Everest:
CPU FSB 99.42 MHz (original: 100 MHz)
Memory Bus 99.42 MHz
Motherboard Chipset Intel Brookdale i845MZ
Memory Timings 2-2-2-5 (CL-RCD-RP-RAS)
DIMM5: Micron Tech. 8VDDT3264HDG-265B3 256 MB PC2100 DDR SDRAM (2.5-3-3-6 @ 133 MHz) (2.0-2-2-5 @ 100 MHz)Benchmarking gives:
Sony Corporation PCG-GRV550(UC) PC1600 DDR SDRAM 1495 MB/swhich is a little strange...
Anyway, I was wondering if I could use a higher speed RAM, or is 2100 the limit. It seems to run at the slower 1600 speed, though.
Thanks.

Try going to Crucial.com and use thier memory configerator. You MBoard manual should also give you some incite. I doubt that your memory bus is capable of running any faster than 100, which is what is is now set at. You have PC2100 but it appears it is running at 100 clock, not 133. Those are just the specs of the memory, not the current settings. If you can't find anything from Sony you can probably cull some info from the Intel site. Key in the exact chipset model and you should get the specs, which may tell you the capabilities.

Probably samsung. Most OEM vendors use generic samsung sticks. Crucial will work just fine too (if you're thinking of adding a 512MB stick.

Thanks for the replies. I found out that the motherboard on this notebook does not support more than 512 MB memory. Oh, well.
