I have problem in Reading and writing to CDs and Writing DVDs. My drive works only for Reading DVDs. is that any driver i need to install, if so where i can get it?

Are you sure your drive is nothing more than a DVD-rom drive used only to read DVD's and CD's? What is the model number of your Sony laptop?

It certainly does have a burner on it, and seems to be a fine computer from the specs I have seen. Do you get any software error messages? Or does it just shut down?
I would try other burning software other than what you're using and see if that goes. If that doesn't work, the drive possibly is faulty, and if it is, it could very well still be under warranty which Sony would replace.
