I own a Dell 700m Laptop with a Sony DVD+RW/CDRW, model DW-D56A-DN. I start to have trouble with the drive reading certain CDs.
I am able to read DVDs, but when it comes to audio CDs, all home-pressed CDs won't play, and most factory-pressed CDs won't play as well. I'd say only 5% of all audio CD would play. When it comes to data CDs, it would read most factory data CDs, but not home-made data disc.
I have the latest firmware from Dell, ran the 32 bit Dell Diagnostic on the drive, and it all passed. I'm very frustrated, as there's not much else I haven't tried. Is it time for a new drive, or is there anything else I can try? Thanks in advance.

It may simply be dirt on the laser / lens, get a cd cleaning kit and give it a go. If that doesn't work, ditch it !
