I am working with a sony desktop PC with win xp. a 16Month old was hitting random keys and the screen went white. I have tried to restart and the screen remains white and I can hear windows starting up. Is there a key combo to change displays or something?

thanks

tap the f8 key on bootup and get into safe mode.
Once in safe mode you may be able to change settings, etc or even do a system restore to before the problem.

Hopefully my advice will help you...Please post back with your results....thanks

There is no boot up screen. the monitor is just white. The monitor is getting a signal (green light and back light) appears to be disabled. I hear windows start up as normal. There is no error beeps. It seems to be working correctly except for the display. On my HP notebook when I press the FN F8 keys I can switch between the LCD display and VGA output. Is there a combo for the sony desktop?

Maybe try another monitor and see if that problem remains, or better yet, try the monitor using your laptop to see what happens.
Other than that, that's all I could come up with, maybe someone else will have some input

Hopefully my advice will help you...Please post back with your results....thanks

Are you certain the monitor controls and its connectors have not been poked about?

If even the boot screen is white then I agree monitor is most likely, otherwise the display card. Maybe something was on its last legs and this activity finished it off.

It sounds as if the three colors are being driven onto full (a black screen would indicate the opposite - no signal). Your display cards settings do not affect the boot screen.
