Does anyone know what software I can use to diagnose a possible fault with amy Epox EP-8k7A motherboard.
My (very frustrating) problem is as follows:
My monitor does not boot up the display, when I turn the computer on, unless the mains power has been turned off. The monitor has no off button, only a standby/power on button. If I turn off my PC, but leave mains power on (monitor on standby), and then turn on the PC again, the PC will not boot and I get the "No signal/Cable disconnected message." For the machine to boot properly, I have to turn off the mains power, and then back on again before turning the PC. If I do this, the monitor comes on and boots up the system properly.
I've tested both the monitor and the graphics card (Leadtek GF3) on a friends machine, and they work perfectly. The card is seated properly into its AGP slot. Everything seems to be OK in BIOS, i even reset to factory defaults, but has no effect. I'm really struggling to know what to do next!!
I also have intermittent Boot Disk Failures when attempting to boot into windows. Again, I've checked the hard drive with Western Digital's Lifeguard tools and it reported no errors. The jumper settings are also correct as per Western Digital website. My boot sequence is set to. Floppy, Hard disk, CD Rom. I've also tried different configurations of this, but to no avail.
My components seem to be all, OK, so I'm starting to suspect I could have a fault with my motherboard, but I don't know how to go about finding out for sure. I dont want to buy a new motherboard for no reason.
For info, my system:
Athlon XP2100
512MB DDR Ram
Leadtek Geforce 3TD
Epox EP-8K7A motherboard
Westerd Digital Caviar 40GIG
Soundblaster Live card
10/100 Ethernet adapter
USB2 PCI card
550W Power Supply
AOC Spectrum 7klr Monitor
DVD Rom
CD RWI'd really appreciate any help, as i'm at a total loss. I've quite happily built PC's before, without any problems like this.
Thanks

Sounds like a power problem to me although a 550W PSU is overkill for those components so that shouldn't be the problem unless it is faulty. Is the PC plugged into a surge protector by chance?

Yes, I have everything plugged into surge protector. Could this be causing me the problems. I'll give it a try without.
Thanks

You never know. With these weird problems they are usually caused by the stupidest of things so anythings worth a shot especially when it seems power related and your PSU is a 550 watter which is more than enough.

No luck i'm afraid. I took out the surge protector, put the problem is still there.
Any other ideas by any chance?
