Socket 478 vs. Socket 775 CPU's

Comment:
Does an Intel Pentium 4 3.2GHz Socket 478 CPU perform any better or worse than an Intel Pentium 4 3.2GHz Socket 775 CPU?
Is there any benefit of one over the other? I realize they are not interchangeable within a specific motherboard.
There does not seem to be any price differential.
Has anyone published any stats on Socket 478 CPU's vs. Socket 775 CPU's?

It's mostly about "future-proofing" your system. Obviously the 775 is newer and will likely be around much longer. It also has PCI-Express which is the newest platform for video cards. A lot of rumors are going around that PCI-E will replace the old AGP interface altogether, within a year. There are a few 478's that now have it. But the 775 will be around longer and the latest and future cpu's will be using it.

Yes. I hear that new socket-775 boards come only with PCI-Express and NO AGP slot. IF you upgrade your system it should be a socket 775 processor motherboard, but most chipsets for this socket dont support AGP.

Not true, there are 775 socket motherboards with AGP interfaces, but not from intel. EPOX is one of the manufacturers selling those kind of motherboards with the new 915 Chipset. About performance, I heard the P4 775 tends to heat less then the 478 socket processor.
Summary: It ain't rocket science. If you have a socket 478 CPU, you MUST get a socket 478 motherboard. If you have a socket 775 CPU, you MUST get a socket 775 board. If you don't know what you have & CPU is "l...
Summary: It depends upon how old the board is. Current boards will support current processors whereas some older socket 775 boards might not support the latest socket 775 CPU's. Some might with a Bios upgrad...
Summary: I have a question about the normal cpu temps for a socket 775 P4 3.2ghz w/ HT. I just installed it on my computer and it's idle is 45-46c 10-11 degrees more than system temps. I just installed it and ...
