lol...I can hear my pc from down stairs its so loud, I just have a few questions, is it the fan that makes all the noise ?

if its the fan that makes the noise is this a good one to get ?

"The 6cm ball bearing fan spins at 4800RPM producing a modest fan noise of 32.5 dB(A)."

1 more thing...do certain fans fit in certain motherboards ?

Have you definatly determined that it is your fan that is making that noise? If so, a cable may have slipped into the blades and is ratteling around.

If it isnt your fan and it a fairly old HDD they tend to make a bit of noise.

Open your case and listen around to find out which device is making the noise. You probably have at least three fans. One on CPU, one on Power Supply and one on VGA card. See if you can isolate which if any is causing the noise. Then with power turned off carefully clean the dust buildup from fans using a soft brush and blow out with hairdrier on cold setting. This may help for a short while but a noisy fan could fail at any time causing the component it protects to burn out. In my experience with noisy fans it turned out to be the smallest one on the VGA card that was the loudest. It can be difficult to isolate exactly which one is making the noise. Use a plastic tube as you would a stethoscope. Hold one end to your ear and move the other end around your system.

As for replacement, I'll leave that to you to choose an appropriate part. See your local pc shop as these components are too cheap for any significant savings to be had by mail order.

Most fans are interchangeable, as long as they are the right size square. The plug will either be 3 small pins or 4 big pins. The cpu cooler fan is usually the loudest.

Take a pencil and carefully stick it briefy into each fan while the machine is on so that that fan's blades are halted. Then you will figure out which fan is loudest. If it is loud but just making a loud whooshing sound, it may just be a high rpm fan. But if there is any sort of mechanicalness to the sound, of a different sort than the other fans, then you should replace it. For the vga card you can use for finger since a pencil won;t reach. Don't forget the fan inside the power supply.

Sometimes machines are made with too many case fans and you can easily get by with only one. Those are the fans mounted on the walls of the case.
