Hi all.

I've been having problems with my sound card, so I tried to check it in the "Device Manager." But when I try to start the "Device Manager" I get a message popping up that says "Snap-in failed to initialize. Name: Device Manager CSLID:{74246BFC-4C96-11D0-ABEF-0020AF6B0B7A}" Does anyone knows what this means?

I found this on a Google search.
It talks about re-registering the snapin files for windows defragmenter. I'm sure the procedure is the same for device manager.

Hope this helps.

Did you try both solutions?

Right clicking the inf file and choosing install?

Have you tried System File Checker?

Start/Run

Type the following:

sfc /scannow

click OK.

And yes, I have you tried System File Checker?

No luck in either case. Any ideas?

This comes from Microsoft's website.

Snap-in failed to initialize.
Name:
CLSID:{8FC0B734-A0E1-11D1-A7D3-0000F87571E3}
CAUSE
This behavior occurs because the PATH environment variable does not include the %SystemRoot%\System32\WBEM folder.
RESOLUTION
To resolve this behavior, add the %SystemRoot%\System32\WBEM folder to your PATH environment variable. To do so, follow these steps:
Right-click My Computer, and then click Properties.
On the Advanced tab, click Environment Variables.
Under System Variables double-click the PATH environment variable.
Type:
%SystemRoot%\system32;%SystemRoot%;%SystemRoot%\sy stem32\WBEM

Note If other system variables appear, do not remove them.
Click OK, and then click OK.

If that doesn't work. Then I'd suggest a repair install of XP.

Had the same problem, solution:

Go here and download the .reg file to register .dlls

open it and apply it by double clicking

then go to C:\WINDOWS\system32 and find devmgr.dll, right click and select register. thats it!

(you may have to unregister it first, then register it)
