I have several SATA HDD's plugged into my motherboard via two SATA controller cards.
1. Promise SATA150 TX series
2. Promise SATA300 TX4The elder card (150) gives me two SATA holes, while the newer card (300) has 4 holes. However, only the older one lets me read the HDD stats via the free SPEEDFAN program. I'm talking S.M.A.R.T readings, temperature, etc.
Promise Customer Support says "Hi Promise has not done any testing with any SMART reading software so I don't know if there is any will be compatible. Thank." (Copied + Pasted)
I need to plug in more SATA HDD's, and my only option is to replace the old 2-port 150 with a 4-port... but what brand? Is there any other brand I can try that DOES support SMART readings? My searches have yielded zero results.

If the older controller can report Smart info, the newer one should be able to, too.
Maybe you just need to try different software.
Try this - dtemp - it reports the temp of your hard drive if the ability is there, and has Smart reported info as well:
