Any idea how to format 64Mb card from Olympus camera. Camera can not format it but just says " card error" Should I just throw it in the garbage? It was working good, card is two months old. I just downloaded some pictures via USB 2.0 All in card reader as I ussualy do, and put it back into camera. After a few days I noticed that camera does not recognize it anymore.

Try to format it through your reader. Use WinXp.
Open "My Computer" , right click on the removable disk containing the Smart Media card. Select "format" then format the card in "FAT". When it is done, put it back in the camera and try it out. If you still get card errors, then you will have to replace the card with the reseller you purchased it from.

Thank You, but this can not work. You can format in XP as FAT 16 or FAT 32, and I think Smartmedia needs FAT 12.

I just formatted an old 16MB Hitachi Smart media card in FAT with a USB 2.0 Card Reader. I used Win2K, not much difference with WinXP. Seems ok over here. Works in the camera.

People, forget every advice. Just go to the nearest shop, take your Smartmedia card and politely ask the salesman to format it in some Fuji camera. This happened to be the simpliest solution. Olympus does not actually format the card but just erase it. Thanks for everything
