Slow to start DVD CD ROM

I have just built a new system and have noticed that access to the CD Rom drive is very slow to start with. The cursor freezes while the drive gets going. I have run a system test with SiSoft Sandra and it indicates the following for my Maxtor 6 L06J3 HD and my Liteon DVD-ROM LTD163 (both EIDE new drives)
SCSI version does not adhere to ANSI. Probably ATI/ATAPI device.

I got a similar problem with a CD-ROM Delta (chinese)...I changed by a toshiba DVD-ROM and everything is smooth now.

watch if your drive property on the motherboard for the primary or secondary device is "DMA if avaible" and not 'PIO Mode'. Sorry for my english i'm french
