Comment:

On 2 very different Asus P4P800 deluxe motherboards, i have the same problem:

When i plug the 2 memory sticks (OCZ 512 Megs each Dual channel) in slot 1 and 3 (the 2 blue ones) The POST is very slow. It says checking NVRAM and 1024 Megs but stops there for about 20-25 seconds. Then drives are detected instantly and the rest of the POST continue without a glitch.

BUT -> The first time i installed this system, i did not know about the fact that dual channel must be places in slot 1 and 3 to perform. I placed them in 1 and 2 by default. Surprisingly, There were NO DELAY whatsoever in the POST, like the one i'm mentionning above.

Can someone have an explanation for that ?

Thanks a lot !!!

Not really an explaination but I have had several problems with the Asus board and RAM, from not booting at all, to only running in dual-channel mode if the RAM speed is dropped slighly. It seems to be very picky with RAM!

Hmm..I see.

Anyway, it's not the first thing that is going bad with this board, i use to have only Gigabyte boards without any problems, should have stick with them instead of Asus.

I will do some further research on this.

Anyone else with a possible explanation ?

Thanks !
