Subject: Slow startup using dual channel memOS: Windows XP SP1ACPU/Ram: P4 3.0 / 1.0 G DDR |
Comment: On 2 very different Asus P4P800 deluxe motherboards, i have the same problem: When i plug the 2 memory sticks (OCZ 512 Megs each Dual channel) in slot 1 and 3 (the 2 blue ones) The POST is very slow. It says checking NVRAM and 1024 Megs but stops there for about 20-25 seconds. Then drives are detected instantly and the rest of the POST continue without a glitch. BUT -> The first time i installed this system, i did not know about the fact that dual channel must be places in slot 1 and 3 to perform. I placed them in 1 and 2 by default. Surprisingly, There were NO DELAY whatsoever in the POST, like the one i'm mentionning above. Can someone have an explanation for that ? Thanks a lot !!!

Reply: (edit)Not really an explaination but I have had several problems with the Asus board and RAM, from not booting at all, to only running in dual-channel mode if the RAM speed is dropped slighly. It seems to be very picky with RAM! Wizard ICT. Microsoft Certified Professional

Reply: (edit)Hmm..I see. Anyway, it's not the first thing that is going bad with this board, i use to have only Gigabyte boards without any problems, should have stick with them instead of Asus. I will do some further research on this. Anyone else with a possible explanation ? Thanks !
