Hi all;

My PC at home is running very, very slow. I've run my a/v software (Avast) and spyware programs (Adaware & Spybot S & D). I've also run Crap Cleaner. However, I've been told I need to run an aggressive registry cleaner. Does anyone have any suggestions?

google for 'advanced windows care. the best one button computer cleaner/optimazer.
the 550 mhz can't handle todays intense graphics . be best to up grade.
a 250 meg video card is really needed in todays graphics.
i found a combo board/cpu with a gig of ddr ram on ebay for 30.00.
it runs at 3.0 gigahertz.

550mhz CPU is not ideal, W2K would run better.

Anyway try:

CrapCleaner:

Live One Safety Scan:

The first thing I would do is examine everything in the startup tab of MSConfig (System Configuration utility).

Oh btw you will be better off not listening to whoever told you to run an aggressive registry cleaner.

Aggressive registry cleaner, while dangerous, is best handled by those who fully understand how it work and know exactly what to do in the event it turn out to be counterproductive.

CCleaner has a decent registry cleaner...did you scan for "issues"?

BTW, temporarily disable system restore (all restore points will be lost) & run your scans from safe mode.

Think of Defrag as your Librarian. Her job is to make sure all the books are arranged in the proper order. If they weren't it will take her longer to find that elusive book. The longer it take to find it the slower your PC will perform.

I uninstalled a program, Network Magic, which had been causing me pains. Also I killed about 1/3 of the programs in the msconfig startup. Things seem to be back to normal now.

Thanks to all for your suggestions.
