It is my understanding that SLI is only used for connecting 2 supported video cards. So when I upgrade my system and only want to use one video card is it in my best interest to get an nForce4 Ultra board as compared to an nForce4 SLI board?

That really depends on how important graphics performance is to you.

If you want to implement SLI, you will need a motherboard that supports two graphics cards and of course two identical SLI enabled graphics cards.

If you are unlikely to ever want this, just go with the cheaper version.
