Hello,
Hopefully someone can help me with this dilemma. My HP dv2000 was purchased back in May '07 and has had the motherboard replaced under warranty once for a faulty graphics chipset that many HP's of this era were known for having. I'm running the original installation of Vista Business and it's running well. However, as of late, the computer shuts off completely and suddenly if I press the sleep button or allow it to reach sleep mode when operating on the battery, and I lose all my work. The other problem is that the computer often times after an incident like this won't turn back on unless I first remove the battery for a few seconds and replace it. I just added the windows 7 beta for a dual boot and it behaves the same way. Is this a hardware issue that I must live with? The computer is well out of warranty.

I disabled sleep mode on my laptops and I set the power button to shut the computer not put it to sleep. I never liked sleep mode or screen savers.
