slave hard drive

does anybody know why my slave drive will not work. when i start the computer i get a message saying to enter a boot disk which i did not recieve with it. if i unplug the slave then the computer will start up fine. please help

You need to set the jumpers on both the master and the slave to reflect the way they are connected. If both drives are on the same cable then the Boot drive should be jumpered as the master and the other as the slave. This cable should be connected to the Primary IDE controller. When you are connecting the slave drive you are causing the BIOS to not see the master.
