Have ran across a difficult problem and would like some assistance, if possible.
Here goes. I have the following configuration. Raptor hard drive on SATA 1. On IDE 1, I have a 20GB hard drive as master and a DVDRW as slave. On the 2nd IDE, I have a CDRW as master and a DVD as slave (I know, overkill). Anyway, here's the situation. System was running flawlessly until it just shut down. When I boot up the system takes about 5 minutes of black screen before it boots to Windows.
When I checked the bios both slave drives are no longer available and the activity light continues to run as though something is going on. I've tried making the slave drives masters to no avail. I've unhooked the CDRW and the SATA drives altogether and still the BIOS will not pick up either DVD drive. It seems pretty hard to believe that both DVD drives would go bad at the same time especially since they're both less than a year old.
I've upgraded the BIOS to the latest one, cleared the CMOS and just about everything else I can think of. Anyone have any suggestions on why both DVD drives will not function and why it takes so long for Windows to boot up. Before this the Raptor would load in 30 seconds or less.

On the 2ndary ide make sure the newest device is the master. Other than that **shrug** Can you tell the bios the dvd's are there rather than autodetect?
