So this is the rig I built for my girlfriend, and recently, the audio/video playback has started skipping. DVDs, running through the DVD drive, will jump over about half a second of play. My girlfriend also says that when she's playing MP3s, the audio will skip.

I've tried updating the video card drivers (GeForce4 MX 440 64mb) and audio drivers (creative soundblaster 16bit PCI), but to no avail. Any ideas? (specs below)

mobo: Shuttle AN35N Ultra
CPU: AMD Athlon 2400+ (2.0GHz)
GPU: nVIDIA GeForce4 MX 440 64mb
Sound Card: Creative Soundblaster 16bit PCI
DVD Drive: sony 16x

the only advice I would know to give is to make sure your drivers are from the manufacture's website. I had the same issue with my audio. I have installed several drivers and finally found one that worked fine. Are the mp3's from a cd or your HD? could be as simple as a dirty lens in your player. Thats all I can offer. Maybe someone else can give you a better response.
