A friend of mine asked me to fit a PCI TV card in his desktop pc (Fujitsu-Siemens Scenic D - D1381).
Manual http://manuals.fujitsu-siemens.com/PCDOCS/A26361-K636-Z100-UK.PDF
I thought I would check that there were spare PCI slots. When I opened the case none of the 3 PCI slots or AGP slots were in use. On checking the AGP slot it looked different from previous ones that I have seen; but more important although the PCI slots were the same, the height of them would have to be smaller. E.G. The metal connection bar is about about two inches longer. I think the PCI card would fit in the slot OK but with the connection bar would not allow the pc case to shut:-(.
I was under the impression that all PCI cards were the same. I just wondered if anyone could give me any advice on this.
Many thanks

Upgrading mass-produced PCs is a nightmare as you can see, the only solution is to buy a new case.

Are you sure it was an AGP slot? and not an ISA slot?

Some people are like Slinkies™, not really good for anything, but you still can't help but smile when you see one tumble down the stairs...

Thanks for that; I am 99.9% certain it is an AGP slot. It is brown??

Ya, that would suggest an AGP slot........

what you describe is referred to as low profile. I run into this with rackmount servers. The cards I put in the servers come with a low profile riser attachment. It is shorter then the standard screw down. Contact the manufacturer and see if they can't send you a low profile replacement.

Scenic D - D1381
According to the manual you provided the link to
<http://manuals.fujitsu-siemens.com/PCDOCS/A26361-K636-Z100-UK.PDF>

The PCI cards for this computer install perpendicular to the mainboard, and directly into slots on the mainboard, therefore this is a standard desktop case, not a slimline case. You should be able to install standard height PCI cards. The bar you are talking of is high enough above the cards to allow removal of the cards vertically.

Motherboard manual D1381 here:
<http://www.fujitsu-siemens.co.uk/rl/servicesupport/techsupport/boards/Motherboards/FSC/D1381/D1381Manual.pdf>

Or find D1381 here, RIGHT click, choose Save Target As to download it here:

Thanks ALL for your assistance.
Although the PCI cards will fit Ok in the 3 PCI slots they will definetly not fit into the existing case. They are too high and the lid will not go on. It looks as if I will have to get a new case.
Once again thanks for your help.
