Okay, in my device manager, I've got a question mark on Other Devices - Multimedia Audio Controller.
I know I have an ECS K7S5A Motherboard, chipset SiS 735 with onboard sound, an SiS 7012 Audio Device.
I have tried downloading the Sis 7012 Driver as well as the ECS websites onboard audio driver for the motherboard, neither have worked, Windows XP would not except them in the unzipped folders. The SiS 7012 driver has an install setup, but it fails with a number error message -536870397, then a general failed to install message.
My BIOS says onboard audio is enabled. I'm running XP.
I did (temporarily)have C-Media audio drivers working on this Media Controller device, but it was short lived as my audio gave out, and I read on a website that the C-Media drivers would install with my motherboard and look like they are working, but they are not.
I JUST formatted. Um, I can't think of much else, If anyone has any suggestions on how I can get this onboard sound working that would be great!

hey jam,

I have that download, and when I run the setup, it brings up that error message -536870397, then a general failed to install message I was talking about. I have also tried forcing windows to update the driver using the extracted files and it wouldn't except it... on another note, I read on another forum that the ECS K7S5A motherboard isn't compatible with XP!? Would there be no way around this onboard audio problem? everything else works fine...

The driver download I posted is from the SiS website:

File Name a12112d.zip
Version 1.12d
Release Date 2005-06-09
File Size 3,759KB

The one at the ECS website is:

File Name 7012_111.zip
Version 1.11
Release Date 2003-03-28
File Size 7.93MB

If you haven't tried the newer one from SiS, give it a shot.

These errors appear sometines because an existing driver is being found.

You need to uninstall all existing audio drivers.

Reboot and then install the SIS 7012 drivers
jam directed you to.

Thanks for posting so quickly :P

I've tried both the 7012_111.zip and the a12112d.zip, both have the same install setup, both I get the same error message.

In device manager under sound, video, games controllers, all I have is Audio Codecs, Legacy Audio Drivers, Legacy Video Capture Devices, Media Control Devices, Video Codecs... there is no option to uninstall or disable these, only update these devices or properties or scan for changes... I have nothing else for media or sound in device manager

Sorry, after re-reading, apparently you've tried both...

What I would do is unzip the SiS driver but do NOT run setup.exe. Go into device manager, right click on the multimedia listing with the "!" & select UPDATE DRIVER. When the Wizard pops up, select "No, not this time" then click NEXT...then select "Install from list or specific location" & click NEXT...then select "Don't search" & click NEXT...then click "Have Disk". On the next screen, click "Browse" & go to the a12112d/WinXP folder

OK, try right clicking on the multimedia listing with the "!" & selecting "uninstall"...do the same for all audio related entries under "sound, video, games controllers", then reboot.

"tried that too, windows says hardware was not installed because the wizard could not find the necessary software"

Re-reading again...if you followed my instructions in #6, the Wizard wouldn't be searching for drivers...you'd be installing them manually.

"i have also tried browsing the 7012zip file as well"

The file must be unzipped & since you'd be manually installing them, you'd have to browse to the WinXP folder within the a12112d folder. Windows should "lock on" to the SIS7012.INF file & install the drivers. Make sure to use the SiS driver folder a12112d, not the ECS drivers

okay I uninstalled the Multimedia Audio Controller and rebooted, and I'm right where I left off... tried the a12112d/WinXP folder as well as the setups, same problems... as I said I can't uninstall anything else in the device manager to do with media, they seem to be just codecs as my only option is to update, only this Multimedia Audio Controller in Other Devices can be disabled, or uninstalled or updated, none of which are working lol...
