Say your amd cpu fsb runs at 400mhz. That means that if your memory is faster than 400mhz, it won't really help you since the path into the cpu is limited to 400mhz. Since you can get single channel memory at 400mhz, there is really no need for dual channel (unless your memory is slower than 400mhz)

A dual channel mobo treats two sticks of memory as though they were one stick with twice as many paths going to it from the memory controller. The memory still runs at 400mhz but the double-width path makes it seem like 800mhz. This is great for an intel or athlon64 system, but its overkill for an amd xp system.

It won't make a difference with speed. But 2700 is rated for 333mhz and 3200 is rated for 400mhz. So the 3200 would have a bigger safety margin.
