Whats the concept of single channel and dual channel memory?I just bought 915G and it has got dual channel memory.Does that mean that two DIMMs should be installed for it to work?I got a 512MB single DDR-1 DIMM.On the post screen it showed memory as 504 MB.(remaining 8 i think it took for the video memory). So,is there any problem with having a single DIMM?I read the manual and there its given about dual DIMMs and Three DIMMs...theres nothing about single DIMM.
Please enlighten me on this.
Thanks.

The answer to that should be pretty obvious...you can't run "dual" if you only have a "single" stick of RAM.

Dual channel mode is a function of the motherboard, not the RAM. There is no such thing as dual channel RAM, but there is RAM sold in pairs to be run in dual channel mode on boards that support it. Basically, when dual channel mode is used, there's a theoretical doubling of the amount of bandwidth the RAM can handle. For example, one stick of PC3200 in single mode can handle up to 3200MB/sec, but two sticks in dual channel mode can handle up to 6400MB/sec. The performance increase is minimal however...certainly not double as the term might imply. On average, the increase is 5-10%, depending on application

Thanks for the reponse. So that means that i have to buy another DIMM for my new PC??Is that why my system is not booting?Actually i posted a question earlier some days ago on this forum only as my computer booted and it kept showing the error : CMOS/GPNV checksum bad.Was it because of this only??And now the computer is showing no display at all.I think its not because of the battery...as mostly people are suggesting.I used another battery and it showed the same error again.Could the single DIMM be the cause??But it booted before and it showed the memory as 504 MB...would it not show any error??
