Single to dual monitor

Connecting to a second monitor won't help if your keyboard is broken as well - you could try a USB keyboard, but it sounds more like you need to get the whole machine to a tech. I suspect that when the OP says "keyboard keys don't work" that is simply a result of installing WIN8 in a machine that wasn't designed for it. The keyboard shortcut switch to enable use of an external monitor no longer functions because WIN8 does not contain the necessary programming for it. Repair will probably cost more than the value of the machine. Goin' Fishin' (Some day)
