whats the difference between dual channel mobos and single channels mobos. would u see a big enough performance gain if your using more than one ram stick, for a worthwhile upgrade ???

Dual channel MBs have 2 memory controllers. This yeilds about 5% improved memory performance. Single channel nForce2 MBs were created to save cost with a little performance hit. Most folks are going for nForce2 because of all the integrated stuff, including soundstorm. For normal use you probably wouldn't notice the difference. Cost isn't much different though.

Dual channel isn't much on an advantage in a Socket A system & probably isn't worth the extra cost. But if you're gonna run an Athlon64 or a P4/800FSB, it can make quite a difference. If you're gonna run an Athlon XP, stick with single channel memory....
"Buyers enticed by dual channel DRAM should note one crucial thing: in theory, a dual-channel memory link does not bring any benefits since the data rate is limited by the FSB bus's bandwidth. It's fixed at a maximum 200 MHz (Athlon XP 3200+) to give a bandwidth of 3.2 GB/s. Even using fast dual DDR400 memory with an access time of 6.4 GB/s has no effect on the Front Side Bus bottleneck of 3.2 GB/s. With that in mind, it's really not so inappropriate to question dual-channel memory technology on the Socket A platform."
Summary: Say your amd cpu fsb runs at 400mhz. That means that if your memory is faster than 400mhz, it won't really help you since the path into the cpu is limited to 400mhz. Since you can get single channe...
Summary: I have a dual channel DDR2 mobo (foxconn 915M03-G-8EKRS) and only bought one stick of memory (DDR2 CORSAIR 1GB |VS1GB533D2). My system does not fully post..foxconn says this is because I happen to hav...
Summary: there is no dual channel memory, just dual channel mobos. When you put ddr memory in a single channel mobo the sticks are addressed independantly using a 64-bit wide path going to each stick. When you...
