If you're getting some message about imminent hard drive failure, then it may or may not be too late. If you can get the machine to boot normally, back-up everything you can before it goes out for good. Run a HDD diagnostics---preferably one from the manufacturer itself...

This might be of interest but backup your important stuff now if you can:

Back up of course ASAP, and use the hard drive manufacturer's utility to test the drive, but if the warning tell you to do anything different, suspect that it may not be a Microsoft warning and might be a fake warning (malware) designed to get you to do something that will open your system up to a real nasty.

You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.

If it's asking you to insert a disk it's probably not even booting into windows. In that case go into cmos/bios setup and make sure the hard drive is properly configured. Consult the motherboard/system manual if you need help with the specifics of your system.

Or did you open the case and fiddle around inside? You may have disconnected something or, even worse, zapped it with static.

If bios setup is configured right for the drive and you haven't messed with anything inside then likely your hard drive has died.
