Hey people, I'm making a little server thing for me and my friends to play L4D on (a 4 player zombie game) and i was looking at Shuttle's KPC 45:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...

I have a Pentium D 3.0 GHZ CPU, im wondering if that cpu is compatible with the KPC 45.

Newegg says:
"Intel Core 2 Duo / Intel Dual-Core E2000 series / Celeron D 400 series"
Does "Intel Dual-Core E2000" just mean Pentium d?

then Tigerdirect says
"Intel Core 2 Duo
Intel Celeron D 4XX
Intel Pentium Dual Core"
Is Pentium Dual Core just Pentium D? I think it may be but i don't want to blow $100 for nothing :P

Probably a n00b question but i just want to be sure.

The Pentium Dual Core is a stripped down version of the Core 2 Duo, it is NOT based on the P4 or Pentium D. And why are you checking with TigerDirect instead of going to the Shuttle website:

Why are you even considering one of those little lunchbox PCs in the 1st place? You can't game with it. The onboard graphics suck & it only has a single standard PCI slot for upgrades so even if you add a video card, it wouldn't be a good one. Not only that but the power supply is only 100W & it's a proprietary design so you can forget about upgrading it. And the motherboard is based on an old chipset.

You'd be better off building a *real* PC.

Just to add, $100 would just be the starting point. You'd still need a CPU, RAM, HDD, optical drive, cooling fans, router, etc.

I have everything else, i need a mobo, psu and case.

Also i think you may have misunderstood my goal.
I need a semi-speedy computer that can turn on and run the dedicated server for the game:

(dedicated server running on my computer)
so once i get my os installed it will just sit with that program running.

I understand the purpose, I was just pointing out the numerous weaknesses in the system. It's based on an older chipset, has limited upgradability, the PSU is proprieatary so if there's ever a problem with it, you're f**ked, & your Pentium D CPU isn't supported.
