Reply: (edit) As a rule of thumb the more ram the better. You simply cant have to much ram.You also failed to mention what operating system you are using but no matter the version of windows from 95-winme,you will see major improvments in performance up untill 512mb ram.If your planning on using windows XP (God help you if you do)then you can go well over 1gig of ram befor any the benifits out way the price. So either way you should go for 512 mb if you can swing the $.

Reply: (edit)My wife and I work with dozens of computer professionals, all of whom have upgraded to XP, and NONE of whom have regreted it yet. I've had WinXP Pro for almost a year, running with *ZERO* problems on all of my games, office applications, scanner, CDRW, digital camera, web cam, you name it. FIVE machines networked through a modem/DSL hub, and being heavily "abused" 12 - 14 hours per day on average. Sometimes it's the machine or the operator that has problems - and not the OS. But yeah, I think 512 MB of RAM is great and as a single user machine, the computer should never need more than that either. With the prices what they are - go for it. Hey Intel, AMD rulez!
