How to update VIA USB 2.0 Driver on Windows XP

Microsoft Windows Update lists all available updates on the Web.
You need download Windows XP Service Pack 1 because Microsoft
EHCI drivers are included.

1. Update Windows XP Service Pack 1.

2. Right-click "My Computer" icon from the desktop. Select "Properties"
item while the menu appears.

3. Select [Hardware] page and "Device Manager".

4. Double click on the "USB devices" node.

5. Select [Driver] page to update driver.

6. Press Next while the "Welecome to the Hardware update Wizard" window appears.

7. You can choose " Install from a list or Specific location" check box. Type or browse
the path {CD-ROM Drive}:\Drivers\USB2\WinXP_SP1 to the driver and then press "Next".

8. Windows will then find the device "VIA Rev5 or later USB Universal Host Controller".
Now you can press "Finish" to complete the installation.

Anyways I did all of that but NONE of my usb ports work. I guess its not reconizing them or something because I even enabled all the usb stuff in the bios. Any help?

1. Delete your USB Universal Host Controller in the Device Manager (Don't worry)(I said this just to make sure you don't have conflicting driver versions...)

2. Reboot computer

3. XP will recognize the new hardware and ask you to install the necessary drivers, or it will do it automatically. Follow the steps and re-install (now clean) the drivers....It might help, but if it does not work with XP drivers, get the VIA controller/chipset drivers from the CD and install it manually: do an add hardware process, and select USB....

Question: Are you using the "on-board" USB ports that are on the back of the computer in the input/output plate?
This should be working fine....as there is nothing more than installing the drivers and usually is an effortless step during windows install/setup....

However, it seems to me that the ones that might giving you problems is the extra ones that come on the board (pins) that you need to connect to use those that are usually mounted on the case/box...those you have a series of connectors that attach to the motherboard, and if not properly connected (check your case and mobo manual for instructions) will give you some issues...PLEASE check and make sure if this is the case....

Post back for more help if needed.

Reply:

1) Delete everything under the usb category in device manager. Also unplug any usb devices that are plugged in.

2) Reboot

3) enter the BIOS options(press DEL, F2, or some other key) and make sure USB is enabled.

3) Save the bios changes and reboot.

4) Windows will find new hardware and walk you through the install.

5) Go to the windows update site and install all the updates.

6) Reboot.

7) Plug in your usb devices.
