Hi All :)
I've just built my first computer and the COM1 port doesn't recognize my serial mouse.
Specs:
MainBoard= AOpen AP53
CPU= Intel 133Mhz
HDD= 2G
Bios= 586 AMIBIOS B213624

I've re-installed Win98 SE on the HD. The Mouse is still not recognized...I've looked over the BIOS and the PS2 mouse is disabled, and checked the jumpers for PS2.
Everything is fine within Win98.....except no mouse. COM1 is recognized and working well. The mouse works (tested it on another system). Checked MoBo COM1 cable to see if it was seated correctly...it checked out.

This happened before with another MoBo. I thought it might've been a dead port, thats why I switched. The only thing that is the same is the HD, but I formated and re-installed Win98.

The person who sold me the MoBo I trust and don't believe that it could be a jumper that was missed, as all cables and jumpers checked out.

I'm missing something! ARRRRRGG I curse you Bill Gates.

P.S. I always curse Bill.....even in my own life when I get frustrated :)

Something on your computer is using the resources Com 1 is set to in the bios. A modem is a frequent culprit.
Most computers have two Com ports - try the other one
or
re-assign the resources in your bios for Com 1 to those normally used for Com 2.
Both your Com ports should be turned on in the bios, but sometimes you must turn one off there if you have a modem.

I have had motherboards that did not work with COM mouses. They were weird boards though..
