Does anyone know where I can get a converter/adapter to let me use a USB device (CD writer) in a computer that only has Serial ports?
All I can find are adapters that work the other way around. I can't be the only one who's ever wanted to use a new peripheral with an old machine!

USB reuires a host and slave, SERIAL ports do not function that way therefore you can not find what you require. Install an add-in USB Card providing the MoBo Bios supports USB.

Serial ports are way, way, way too slow to run a CD writer! Forget about that! And I would suggest a USB2 controller if the writer is compatible with USB2.
