Specs: Windows XP, 2.2ghz Core2duo/1gb
i just thought that if my HDD or MOBO is the shorted or other PC parts are the problem of my PC.

I have a Seagate Barracuda 250GB and i tried to test-run it without the MOBO but only the PSU
by shorting the PSU to run it onward and then try to connect and test the HDD to do Data Recovery but suddenly it goes shorted i guess... because the Power Connector Burnt and
smoke appear suddenly when i suddenly see it too... i quickly Unplug the power of my PSU to stop it...

Does any one know what happend inside my HDD??? my data is still there???

or already burned up too... other sites says i just have to Replace the PCB of my HDD (within exact Model, Country and all info but except for the serial of course) and
try running it again...

what if i dont have money to spend for another PCB? can i still run it???

my Questions are only three here:

1.My HDD still has the data?
2.My HDD can be run again with the same old PCB?
3.What happened? and why my HDD got shorted???

Please someone lend me a help here...

Are you saying that you left the HDD connected to the power supply that you had "hot-wired" to make it run? Power supplies are not meant to be run that way for any length of time. If that's what you did & the power supplied burned out, it's very possible the HDD burned out too.

ahh... Ok that it... your right but i the thing is... my PSU is not dead at all and it does not burned out and cause any trouble, only the HDD burned and the POWER CONNECTOR shorted down... some few smoke came out that time... i still dont use it today but im analyzing it down... writing some info what i got here on web... thanks to all of you... but if some you got another good idea for my HDD well im still here reading out some info.

i dont know if i can still get my data back... without shorting out again the HDD because i guess i can do more damage if i try again mounting it and power it up

but what i think of my drive is still fine and the data inside is still not corrupted... but the problem is... How i can try to drive the HDD again??? if i try maybe it will show some smoke again... i still also dont open the PCB and check out if some chips or parts of the PCB are burned or have crack...

Anyone got more ideas??? please reply
