Greetings all,
I recently saw this barebones kit from tigerdirect: http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=1034877&Sku=N52-3015
...and it says it takes a p4 cpu, but the friend that I'm building the system for likes AMD. Can the AMD sempron 3000+ work in this slot? It says slot 478, but I keep seeing 478 and slot A being used in the same context. So can I use the sempron 3000+ or 2800+ in this set-up?

I have no idea where you're coming up with the "same context" idea? Intel & AMD CPUs haven't been compatible with the same socket since the days of the socket 7 (Pentium 1 & AMD K6/K6-2)
The Sempron 3000+ fits Socket A (aka Socket 462).
Socket 478 is for Intel CPUs only! Slot A is for the early versions of the AMD Athlon, which looked like Sega Genesis cartridges...lol.

If you wanna build a cheap system using a Sempron, have a look at this:
Summary: If you are thinking of replacing a 1.2 Mhz Duorn with a Sempron 3000 in a Socket A board I think you going to be dispointed. Sempron is a Socket 754 assuming that you could do a direct replacement, W...
Summary: Hey everybody with processor knowledge! :) I have bought a Compaq laptop with WINXP SP2, 512 MB DDR RAM, a Sempron 2800+ Mobile and an integrated ATI xPress 128 graphics chip. I was stunned to find ou...
Summary: Vien is 100% incorrect. The Sempron IS an Athlon XP, only it's been given a new name, new FSB, & new model numbers. Physically, it's the same CPU, but since most Athlon XPs ran at 133MHz (266FSB), the...
