Hi folks,
I'm now shopping an economic all-in-on Photo InkJet printer, including printing and scanner, (faxing being optional) preferrable Cannon. There are many of them available on computer shop. It won't be easy for me to decide. I only print and scan occasionally, heavy duty being NOT a MUST. The printer shall be used on Windows machine as well as Linux machine.
Suggestion and comment would be appreciated. TIA

If you only print occasionally an inkjet of any kind could prove problematic. Printheads get pluggged up when a printer sets too long.
You might want to consider a Laser printer.
As far as printing photos goes, you can print better and cheaper photos almost anywhere that photos are processed.
Sam's club, Costco, Walgreen, Walmart, the list goes on. Save the photos to disk and take it to the store. The photos will keep longer and they are cheaper.

Yup, and the ink cartridges dry out in a few months. If you can put up with refilling the cartridges yourself, it might be ok. But I finally gave up and got a laser, and I don't regret it a bit.
Although they are kinda noisy, if that could be a problem.

Pay attention the printer you choose is NOT a Win printer (aka GDI printer) as those machines work only under Windows environments as the bulk of print processing is loaded to the CPU via the unified layer of drivers. No way to work under Linux. Usually the economic ones belong to that category.

I have a hp psc 2110 all in one the ink cartriges are expensive
but the printhead is built into the cartridge
this meaning that the head is cleanable
ex. i left this prtr down stairs for about a year and thought that i would have to buy new cartridges
much to my suprise i simply rubbed the print head with my finger and did a test page it printed fine
color and all this model only has two cartridges
unlike my all in one epson that has 6 cartridges and the head is not built in
yes when the cartridges dry up then they are toast but the cartridges are 11 dollars ea
the epson down side is that if you let it sit for a year then the head becomes toast
(the epson needs attion once in awhile to keep the heads from getting clogged)
and have to replace the printer much more that the prt hd for the hp
the choice is yours look at reviews online for the printers you want
i believe that the cannon has a printhead that you can buy seperately
or used to
good photo quality laser printers are very expensive

What do you call very expensive?
Another problem with most inkjets is that they have counters on the unit that insists you are out of ink wheather you are or not. Big rip off if you ask me.
I have a Color laser that also has a counter to tell when toner is low. However, you can override that and it will probably go for quite awhile longer. This trick was told to me by the tech support for the printer.
Total cost of ownership is much lower with any laser printer.

Hi folks,
Thanks for your advice. I'm aware HP is well Linux supported.
What model of HP printer would you recommend. I use it on desktop PC, not network printer nor heavy duty. But it must print photo. TIA

its gard to find a "photo quality" laser printer
the color on the photos are very predictable on the cheaper color laser prtrssatimis
the hp is a old name in printers
your best bet would be to look at some reviews on different printers
keep in mind what you are going to use it for
photo printing
everyday printing
scanning
copying
faxing
there is a big selection
also keep in mind that if you are going to have to buy cartridges for it on a regular basis the price of the cartridges
and if you buy a printer that uses a multi color cartridge that you will have to replace the cartridge if 1 color runs out
i believe that there is a hp inkjet with seperate colors now
use the google search for most of your shopping needs
