I wonder if any one can help me. I'm attempting to up grade an old pentium-s 133MHz running Windows 3.1. I want to run windows 98 on it, so have successfully installed a cd-rom to take the windows 98 cd. But there was'nt enough hard disk space to do the upgrade. So I got a second hand hard drive that I wanted to install as a slave to the original. Both set up fine in the bios as primary master and slave, but wether in Dos or windows I can'nt access the slave HDD to format etc.
In bios I'm selecting the LBA mode for the slave(two other modes availabe- NORMAL and LARGE), although selecting NORMAL makes no difference. The slave HDD is a Conner CFS541A and the master a SEAGATE ST3144A.
Thanks for any help you might be able to offer.

Did you partition the second HDD yet?

If you have FDISK then try using that to format your hard drive. You'll need to run it from a boot disk. If you don't have it you can probably get it from somewhere on the internet. Since you have Windows 3.1 you may only be able to format the drive with FAT16, but since Windows 98 can read that it should be able to convert it to FAT32 which is the file system you want.

Thanks the suggestions of using FDISK solved the problem. I can now access the slave HDD.

Many thanks
