Hello everyone. I have a seagate 300 gig external hdd connected by esata cable. I've been getting I/O device errors when i try to back up my hdd on my computer using Norton Ghost 9. I've read a lot of articles on this and tried some of the fixes, but no luck. I used Killdisk and wrote the drive to 0's and reformatted using NTFS. The drive does make a lot of clicking noises even though it's not that old (maybe 6 months). I'm assuming that the drive is failing due to the clicking noises. I've reinstalled the esata drivers, bios recognises the drive. It shows up in my computer and I've run a chkdsk/r on it all to no avail. Any other ideas???
Thanx Grasshopper

Thanx for the suggestion Cuffy. I did that already. I dl'd seagate backup utility and it sucessfully created an image. Maybe it has something to do with Norton Ghost.

Try XXClone........... it's freeware, works great! Never tried it to an external though. Google will find it for you.........

As you know, a clicking hard drive is not a good sign. But I have seen a good drive click because of a weak power supply.
