I just got my Seagate Barracuda 300GB 7200 that I'm gonna put into my Dell 4600. I ordered it from ZipZoomFly, and was quite suprised to see it arrive in a foam pocket with no instructions, screws, etc. Just the HD in an anti-static bag. My question, will I need any special screws or anything to install this?
And also, the whole master/slave thing... if I'm gonna use this just for storage (no OS on it), do I set it to slave, or not do anything. Does that have anything to do with "pin 1"? I've been reading stuff on pcguide.com but it hasn't helped much. Thanks.

You will need four screws. You will need to set it as slave in most cases. You will need to format before you use it.You will need another ide ribbon cable if none of yours accept more than one item. Bye!

Check the Mfr. website, and you should be able to download the instructions for the drive.
Once properly jumpered and installed, right click my computer, manage, disk management. Format and partition from there.

Put it on the 2ndary channel...if it's alone, make it master...if it's paired up with an optical drive, it can be master or slave, provided you make the necessary adjustment with the other drive. Use an 80-wire IDE ribbon cable & you'll need 4 screws to mount it (of course). Go to Seagate's website & download the software needed to partition & format the drive.
This space for rent

Thanks. If I can get my stuff together I might try installing this thing soon.
