My computer freezes when I insert a 2g SD card into the card slot. I have a laptop computer. I want to download the pictures from the card but when I insert the card it freezes my computer. What is weird about it is when I take it out my computer acts normal. I have opened my computer to see if it recognizes the card but it doesn't. When I remove the card the card is momentarily shown on MY COMPUTER. If I leave SD card in the slot and reboot computer it will not load windows. I have tried to download the latest drivers but it says I have the latest. I have scanned using norton, CCleaner, HiJackthis and others to ensure I don't have virus or have been some other unwanted program. Everything seems to be ok. Thank you in advance for any help with this.

What brand camera do you use it in? Does it work in there?

I had a similiar thing happen with a Micro SD card out of a Motorola cell phone in the past. The card wouldn't work in Windows at all. I think it may have something to do with the formatting used by some devices. See if you can connect the camera/ etc. via USB cable and read it that way.

I have a nikon Coolpix. It might be the format but I can't reformat and I am in the military so I can't run to the store to pick up a usb cord to connect the camera but that is a good suggestion.

Thank you.

I believe Vista SP1 and all subsequent Windows updates have addressed this issue. Is your Vista up to date?

Yes I update my drivers and windows fairly often. I will check on it though just to be sure. Thank you.

My sandisk was locking my camera up because I tried downloading some pics from my laptop.
I found this under FAQ on sandisk web site & it worked for me.
Make sure your card is unlocked
Insert your card into laptop
open disk Management by right clicking on My computer & select manage
Under Storage, click Disk management on the left pane,
In the right pane find your memoy card,
right click on the device you want to format then select format.
If a warning comes up click yes or O.K.
I left all the formatting options as they
were
click o.k. to format.

Doing this I was able to see my memory card in my camera without it freezing it up. I then formatted it in my camera.
