Hello,

I recently bought an HP 6100c SCSI scanner. After start up the Found New Hardware Wizard opens, identifies the new scanner, but then is “unable to complete installation” because “Required section not found in INF”. My only option is to click finish. Then the scanner is nowhere to be found in the system, i.e. not listed in the device manager, or in Install New Hardware control panel.

There is, however, in the Install New Hardware control panel, but not the device manager, listed an HP C2520A SCSI Processor Device, with a question mark beside it. This is in fact the scanner because once I turned off the scanner and I was told I had improperly disconnected the HP C2520A. If I click on it in the Install New Hardware control panel it says that it’s working fine, and I am unable to update the drivers.

Usually I know how to install drivers, but I think there must be something else wrong.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Marc Galabrun

I have the HP 6100c scanner too and it works pretty good except the sheet feeder. The scanner is a really well built and tough machine.

I just wish that HP would spend a few minutes and fix their drivers so the sheet feeder would work. The sheet feeder will only work with the Microsoft scanner software.

It will work with the HP software in Windows 98 and earlier though.

Do you have the HP "Deskscan" program installed?

What it the brand of your SCSI card?

I had a Buslogic SCSI card and the original HP scanner card with their cable for that card.

Both would work (separately) but later, I went to an inexpensive Adaptec card because I assumed that drivers would be updated more often. It seems more reliable than the Buslogic.

If you don't have it, download Version 2.9 (for Windows XP, previous version doesn't work with XP) and install it. It might be the only one that will work with Windows 2000 too. See if that helps. Maybe there is a driver in there. Not sure about that.

Does Windows 2000 have a compatibility mode similar to the one in Windows XP? I did not have to use it but maybe it will help you if available.

Let me know if there is any way I can help. If you get it running right, you have a good scanner.

Sorry I missed the part about the HP C2520A. It is your scanner. Mine has the same line in the Device Manager.

I just looked at my device manager (windows XP) and it shows the "Hewlett-Packard Scanjet 6100c or 4c/3c" under "Imaging devices".

Hi Marc,

Sounds like a corrupt, or wrong version, INF.

What SCSI adapeter are you using?

M2

I have the Adaptec AHA-2940 SCSI card. It is working fine. I think I could install the drivers I downloaded from HP if I could only find the scanner somewhere in the system.

So you guys have the same scanner?

DCM, version 2.9 of what?

newbie.

My version 2.9 is off the HP web site and is their "Deskscan" program.

Is your SCSI ID number set correctly for the scanner?

I can vaguely remember having quite a few problems with SCSI on various devices because of the settings.

My HP scanner is the only remaining SCSI device on my system and it has been a while since I had to set it up so it is hard to remember how to do it.

My scanner is set for SCSI ID #2 on an Adaptec 2930CU card. I see that go by on the screen when the computer boots up.
