Is it possible that you failed Windows activation? If so, you will have a black screen until you resolve the matter. It happened to me once, and I learned a lesson from it. When you do the inital installation, it will first download a Windows Genuine Advantage Tool, which you must accept. Then when you check for further updates, you may elect not to download the checker and even not to show it to you again, which I did. This is SPYWARE. There are those (like me) who upgraded hardware in my laptop and where I previously passed the spyware application, I failed it, just because I upgraded my memory and processor. Never allow the checker to download, or when you upgrade, you'll have problems. I don't know 100% that this is your problem (there will be a "nag" message in the right corner of your screen), but it is a possibility. Hope this helps you and good luck!
