I have a IBM R50 with a SXGA+(1400x1050) TFT LCD and 32MB ATI Radeon 9000 video. Every thing works fine except on the start up after it sit for a few hours. As soon as it starts the screen is unreadable. You can kind of tell something is loading, but all you see is lines than blocks all over the screen. I have all the latest update from MS and IBM. All Drivers are up to date. After I turn it off a few times it will work just fine. I run it at 1400-1050 but I tried setting a smaller screen size, but I still have the problem. Now, I have changed the ram out from 512 to 2 gig. Could there be a problem there? I ran PC Doc from IBM and it passed every test. One time, I did get a message from windows about the problem and stated it was the video driver problem and to up date. As I said I have the newest update and I can't find a older version to roll it back to. Any ideas?
If this is a desktop computer with an add in graphics/video card you may need to reseat the video card a few times to cleanup the contacts. If things work well after warmup that could be the problem.
Video corruption can only be caused by that, or by a defective card but that doesn't apply since when it works it works fine, or by poor contact of the ram in it's slots but it sounds like you have tested for that. Video drivers you load in Windows almost always have no effect until Windows starts to load later in the boot process - all cards and more recent mboards support a basic VGA mode without needing drivers to be loaded before Windows starts loading.

You could try this. Sometimes all it takes is a fingerprint or a tiny amount of contamination on the contacts to cause intermittant problems.

being this is a laptop the problem can be the video i did not check to see if this model has a card or is imbedded also sometimes the interface from the tft to the mainbd could be loose
Thanks for all the tips. Had some of the IT guys at work look at it and they are can't figure out why it does this. But by accident, I found a way to make it work. For some reason if I hold the power button down until I see IBM it works just fine.
