My pc screen died, and I'd like to transfer files from the pc to my laptop instead of getting a new screen. Can I do that?

Connect an external monitor and see if that works. There may be a keystroke to activate an external monitor. If that doesn't work then the integrated graphics chips may have gone bad. In that case you will need to connect the laptop hard drive to another computer in order to access the files. There are a few methods to accomplish that. You may also need to take ownership of the files/folders once you do connect elsewhere.

Borrow a Monitor for the PC till you can get the files transferred. A Monitor should not be a problem, lots of old 17 to 19" CRT monitors available for $20 to $25. Try the Local Paper or in your area. Computer Repair Shops throw good monitors in the Trash every day.

You'll spend more than that on an external HDD enclosure for the PC HDD.

There is nothing to learn from someone who already agrees with you.
