hi, everyone
i'm having this mysterious problem with my 80gb 7200rpm Western Digital hard disk (8mb buffer). i find that it is taking too much time to do just bout everything...

so i tested it with my Nero Burning Rom to find out da speed, and i discovered that the performance has dipped to 2mb/sec!!

i dun think it has to do with disk fragmentation or lack of disk space bcos those minor issues can't really adversely affect my hard disk.

i'm not sure what i've done prior to this problem...so, i need some advice from anyone who had faced with such problem before with this kind of hard disk

plz help, thanx

That may be because the CD burner can only take data so fast.

wrong. lack of space and fragmentation force the hard disk to work harder. 80Gig is a lot of space. how much of it is free? What was the transfer rate before? What else is running in the background?

Here's some reading

Rayman, there is actually a small utility found in Nero Burning Rom's Preferences>Cache.

clicking the button that says "Test all drive speeds" allows me to check the speed of my hard disk not my cd burner :-)

the result was more than 30mb/sec last time...but now it is only bout 2mb/sec.

Gene, i tried the program u recommended and here are the disk-reading test results:

Random Access Time: 14.5ms
Read Burst Speed: 2.4mbps
Read Speed: maximum 1843.0kbps, minimum 1100.0kbps, average 1789.6kbps

as for the graph, i couldn't quite explain it but i hope those figures mean anything to u, thanx
