Comment:

Scanning always produces a scanned image which is legal size (8.5in X 14in).

How can I change the default to letter size (8.5in X 11in?)

Thanks.

You will have to check your scanning progarm for options to change that.

If for some strange reason it doesn't have that option, you can use a graphics editor to make the change. If you don't have a decent graphics editor, Paint 'might' be able to do it.

You can usually change the scanned size from the default size just before you actually scan.

If you never or rarely scan 14" anything, you can probably change the default settings somewhere - e.g. in the Properties for the all-in-one in Control Panel - Printers and Faxes (e.g. RIGHT click on the all-in-one's icon), and/or there may be an icon for it's settings in Control Panel, and/or you may be able to do that by selecting something listed for the all-in-one device in your Programs list

You probably have more than one way to start the scanner software. The shortcut probably doesn't show you the options but as mentioned there has to be a setting. My Documate scanner has an option to preview. When doing that I can not only change to other standard paper sizes but to custom size according to what I am scanning. In order to do that the scan size comes up. Hope that helps to steer you in the right direction.

I got it to work . . . after a fashion.

First, use HP Solutions Center to configure a settings window to be presented each time a scan is made.

On that settings window, in the "Advanced Documents Settings" panel, check the "Automatically crop scanned documents" option.

Not what I expected, but seems usable.

Thanks all for the suggestions.

Steve

We're glad to hear you found a solution, after a fashion.

There should also be some place where you can change the default to 8.5" X 11". Sometimes you have to click on a button or bar on a page, such as for Advanced, Properties, etc. to find that
